Post WOODLAND WARRIORS
I'm currently nearing completion of a Swords & Wizardry variant, inspired by Redwall, Mistmantle and similar children's fantasy-animal books. I've made extensive changes to the core S&W system - most notably using D6 throughout. Levels are limited to 6th and playable races (called "Kind") are badgers, hedgehogs, mice, squirrels and moles. Other animals would be simple to turn into PCs. The classes are Friar, Warrior, Wizard & Scout, with an npc class of Rogue. There is a simple setting included - The Stonewell Abbey Campaign, as well as a full adventure penned by David Bezio (Grubman) of Xplorers! and Wild West Cinema fame.

Here are some rats, superbly drawn by Darrel Miller:

Hey Bill - someone is cutting in on your squirrel territory. You ready to send out the...uhhh...nevermind...

All kidding aside, this sounds really fun and interesting. Given the number of kids I saw at GaryCon, I might have to take a look at this and see if it is something my son and/or daughter would like to run as a game next year. Any playtests? When do you foresee conclusion?

There is actually an early draft up here (although the draft number is now up to 1.09, it still gives an idea of the way the game was going):

It is great fun - I've had playtests with 2 different groups and they've enjoyed it immensely. Last nights playtest was superb and the system held up very well (being changed from the standard D20 system, I had a few worries about how everything would hang together, but it worked nicely).

Oh, and to answer your question, I'm just awaiting a bit more art and the final map. So it could be out in a week or two in pdf and maybe a bit longer to wait for print (via LULU).

And I beg to differ on the Squirrel Attack front - I had Tales from The Wood & It's a Dog's Life out first! ;)

Playtesting has gone superbly - I've had two groups playing two separate mini-campaigns/adventures in the Stonewell Abbey/Alder Vale setting. Following these playtests, I've tinkered a bit more with the classes (Wizards and Warriors mainly, plus an NPC "Rogue" class) XP requirements, added a full adventures penned by David Bezio and lots of other bits and pieces. It should be ready for release in PDF this coming weekend and in POD via LULU sometime shortly afterwards.
If it goes down well, I have a few ideas for additional material (a city called Alderhaven, at the mouth of the Alder River, just south of the Fellmarsh and then will come "WOODLAND WARRIORS OUT WEST" - gun-totin' mouse sherrifs, raccoon gamblers, brave prairie dogs and pesky varmints all shootin', drinkin' and brawlin' their way across the dusty trails of the "Wild West".

Not that there is much interest ;) but anyway, the art is now in and it shouldn't be too long now...

Woodland Warriors has a new mini-campaign setting called Greyrock Isle, which is a small island that has been overrun by Vermin marauders. It has a strong Robin Hood vibe. The third book in the series is Woodland Warriors Out West - raccoon cardshaps, mouse marshals and coyote gunslingers all vie for control of the Golden Valley, the wild-west style backdrop. Coming soon will be Woodland Warriors at Sea - where you get to play the vermin in a pirates of the caribbean-style setting. More information can be found here:

There are some cool freebies there too - so it is worth a look!

Woodland Warriors Out West (gun totin' raccoon cardsharps & coyote outlaws in a wild west style setting) has been out for a while now and Woodland Warriors At Sea (swashbuckling sea adventures, where you play the evil vermin buccaneers and shantyists) is nearing completion.

The really good news is that Brave Halfling Publishing and Beyond Belief Games have reached an agreement for BHP to put out a digest-sized boxed set of Woodland Warriors. Hopefully, there will be some really cool contents, aside from the usual dice and stuff. Check the BHP and BBG websites for more information later in the month.
