This is a thread to discuss the mission statement and rules of the forum.

Rules 1. Don't do, discuss planning or advise on illegal activites. This is a site liability issue.
2. Do not link to piracy sites. This is a site liability issue.
3. No Porn.
4. Spam accounts will be deleted. This includes if you come here only for spamming or spam bots.
5. No multiple accounts.
Guidelines 1. Speak freely.
2. Use your ignore if he really bothers you.
3. Try to keep flames to minimum.
4. Think about your post BEFORE you hit submit.
5. Please keep sigs to under 6 lines of normal text.
Other suggestions?

Re: Mission Statement, Guidelines and rules
As far as rules, there's always the good old:
No spamming, bots, multiple accounts and so on.
As far as guidelines, there would be dozens but it always comes back to being of good faith and common sense I think. Which is hard to define but hey, it works!

Re: Mission Statement, Guidelines and rules
Just couldn't wait, couldja?
It's nice - I see you're also using phBB - which version is it? I'd love to get your input on pulling out the authorization so that it could be used for other things on the same site. I did it to an extent in an attempt to tie in a wiki - but I had to give it up for work pressures.
While the "Be Mature" could cover a lot, you might want to be specific about things like swearing, adult images, etc. Who are the moderators and for what will someone be banned? Although this last one I could see staying away from to avoid the rules lawyers....

Re: Mission Statement, Guidelines and rules
Good point. I will add 3. No Porn. 4. Spam accounts will be deleted. This includes if you come here only for spamming or spam bots. 5. No multiple accounts. On no multiple accounts, do we really need this? I think we might as it is a sign of good faith to have one account... Thanks.

Re: Mission Statement, Guidelines and rules
Yeah, the whole be mature one will need to be rewritten more specifically. Essentially, I was trying for a be reasonable or at least don;t destroy content with diarrhea of the keyboard. I actually have already done integration work with 2.022 and Zencart for one login. Also, some work for YGN in the same kind of thing. Authentication is pretty straight forward PHP work with just a touch of SQL. We are running PHPBB 3.04 here. Should we have a WIKI here? Thanks.

Re: Mission Statement, Guidelines and rules
I would have no multiple accounts, sockpuppets can be a real pain.
I'd also suggest a limit to sig sizes personally.

Re: Mission Statement, Guidelines and rules
This has been brought up before. I am of mixed opinions on it since I see it as only an annoyance in rare cases but I do nto feel strongly about it. I am not sure a banning would be appropriate unless it was repeated;i.e. make sockpuppet->Admin deletes->warn user not to do so->make SP again->Ban. I can get behind that.

Re: Mission Statement, Guidelines and rules
How about "Don't embed sound files, videos or really large images?"

Re: Mission Statement, Guidelines and rules
I have already broken this rule then. Edit to be more constructive: Is there a reason? Do you mean "embedding" as in directly linking? Because it costs the site no bandwidth if we are not hosting it. Just looking for your concern here Mark. And Welcome!

Re: Mission Statement, Guidelines and rules
Oh, just that opening a thread and having a sound file or video start up (many folks embed in a way that causes auto-play) or having a linked image either causing huge scrolling problems or use up some other poor schlub's bandwidth are just nitpicks of mine. If no rule is implemented, it really won't bother me a lot. Nice to be aboard!
