Post WoW and other MMOs
I know we're mostly a tabletop forum, but I'm curious to see how many other folks do MMOs.

I started playing WoW as just another computer game, and mostly just soloed stuff and explored the world for quite some time, but got more involved in the game as more of my friends started playing. I've been playing for 3 years or so now, and regularly play--at least an hour a week, I'd say.

My motivations for playing have certainly changed. I really don't do much solo play anymore--I find it much more satisfying to work with a group of people, whether random strangers or friends to overcome challenges in game. It's also a fun activity for gaming groups separated by time zones and hundreds of miles. I mean, yeah, I could take time and effort to put together some online version of a D&D game for us, but it's much easier to just hop on WoW, run a few daily quests, and BS with friends over Ventrilo voice chat.

Why do you MMO? What do you play?

I just play wow, and I mostly heal with my priest and DPS with my 'lock. I despise PVP, but am stuck on a PVP server with all of my friends. At some point I'm going to try tanking with my death knight who's 73.

A lot of my coworkers do, but I don't think anyone in my group does. I'll have to ask though to be sure.

I play World of Warcraft. At least three times a week a couple hours at a time. Originally got into it when a lot my real life friends (and local gamers) got into it. I still play with those folks along with several other people I've met through the game.

Considering the headache of getting actual table top games together around here (my schedule is pretty messed up not to mention everybody elses) this helps me get my gaming scratch. Working as a group to accomplish something is a good feeling, from prepping up for a new raid to helping others get materials for the professions. It's just nice to be part of a group that works together. Of course get yourself in a bad guild and this won't happen.

I do not play MMO's. About the closest I've come is to mess around on Rune-scape while my son and/or daughter are playing. Same with Club Penguin :) In both cases, as much to ensure it's appropriate as anything else.

I do not play CRPG's, either.

It's just not my thing. I've never been fond of games that require 'twitch' - though I do play the Wii with my kids, so...
