Oh I am not saying that no one is going to buy D&D Next/D&D 5th edition, I do however think that with these new options being released, there will be less people who will need it as they are getting their fantasy fix with DCC, Barbarians of Lemuria and the like.

Like you said, there are people who collect games and will get a hundred different versions of a fantasy game. I am just the kind of person who finds the games the work and get rid of the ones that don't.

Gamers are fantasy RPG junkies. Many of them. They don't stop at one or two titles. They may pick several a year.

And DCC will be the least of WotC's worries. The only part that's really worrisome is the possible dilution of the DnD brand's prestige. Having 6 different official versions in 15 years or so is a lot. The fact that the last few versions have gone progressively worse than the ones before also doesn't help.

But based on the playtest document, it looks like an awesome version of DnD is on the way. I shall remain cautious but so far, I am very optimistic.

QFT.

I like the looks of it so far, and as many fantasy games as there are out there, none of them will ever have the brand power to show up anywhere but FLGS or online with geeks like us. D&D has name recognition and will be in book stores (for as long as they still exist at least).

Will it be a huge success? We'll have to see. I'll probably buy it. I'd never buy another fantasy game, personally. I've got plenty of books from every edition of D&D to date to keep me busy.
