 Re: Teenagers From Outer Space
I think the setting often ties into the fact that it is based/inspired by Anime. It's not a big deal, there are a lot of good games out there so if a game is anime based and doesn't work for me, I play something else. No loss for me

Hey not everybody here is a hater. I just said there are only a few that I like. Haters hate it when other people like something. For me if somebody likes anime then it doesn't bother me a bit.

Actually with the art I'll stand by my view that he was being more creative than just about anybody else putting out RPGs. That's because he tried something different. It may not have worked but boy did he give it an all out go with it. I think the main failing with Cyberpunk 3rd was he tried to mix way to much up in it at one time. Looked like he was going for a cyberpunk/post apoc setting that was just starting some full on turns into transhumanism. Neat idea, didn't work well the way it was pulled off.

 Re: Teenagers From Outer Space
I have plenty of fun. So I'm not sure what this is all about. Some people like SciFi, others like action flicks, and still others like mystery. Why is it I have to like Anime? Does this mean you have to like my hobbies now too? This is a pretty overly sensitive sounding comment. I don't like anime, but I don't need you to dislike it with me. I also don't like Reuben's, but i don't care if you like those kinds of sandwiches-and I'm certainly not coming to your table to tell you what to do for fun, so maybe you can back off on the "look at me on my Anime cross!" bit?

I have to admit, I love fun beer and pretzels games that you can pick up and play just to have laughs

[Puts on asbestos-lined jacket and leaps into thread] Me too. As you said above, and sort of summarising SeriousPaul's comments, RPGs are many and varied, there's something for everyone, and there's no need to get het up about it or to trash other folks' likes and dislikes. Re the topic: I don't like anime, but I don't mind if other peeps do, that's their business not mine.

 Re: Teenagers From Outer Space
I wonder if its hard to get people to play comedy rpgs because some people take role playing games way too seriously. I don't know, maybe you are right Caty and it is a taste thing

 Re: Teenagers From Outer Space
I don't think our games are devoid of humor, but we have a hard time with a game that's specifically comedy orientated. A joke when the moments right? Awesome. The pressure of stand up all the time? Not so much.

 Re: Teenagers From Outer Space
I think the reason it's so hard to 'sell' games that are specifically comedy-orientated is three-fold: 1) As I mentioned earlier, I was advised by an experienced GM to not bill my game as a comedy game per se because people's ideas of what is funny are very different from each other, and players will worry that their brand of humour will not chime with that of the game's designer and/or the GM or other players and that therefore the game will 'fail'. 2) Players worry that 'comedy game' = silly/thrown together/poorly planned or designed becasue after all it doesn't matter, what the Hell, we're just out to have a laugh, right? Wrong. All the great comedians, from Morecambe and Wise to Larry David, didn't just 'throw stuff together', they worked on it carefully so that it would appeal to their target audience and not fall flat on its face. 3) Sadly, yes, I think that this is indeed true for a minority of gamers.
