[Sci-Fi Beta Kappa]1e now available in pdf.
Ok, so we've finally got version 1 written up. It's now available for free download from my Dropbox site, link below: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44973653/SFBK%20v1.3.pdfIf you're interested in GMing SFBK, please PM me here or e-mail me at leomarshalldesigns [at] hotmail [dot] com, and I'll reply with a link to the GM's copy, which includes the opening scenario Toga! Toga! Toga! Party on dudes (Just don't get caught!). Cheers Leo P.S. At this stage we're mainly looking for feedback on how clear the system is, and whether peeps would be interested in running SFBK themselves. We realise that the document needs a lot of work, but don't worry, it'll receive a lot of care and attention from some species of editing monkey before it hits the traders' rooms. P.P.S. Speaking of monkeys, a pdf is also now on http://www.1km1kt.com.

So yeah!!! Tells about the setting and system. Yeah, I know, you are looking for feedback but give us a good reason to download and look at it.
Thanks!!!

Re: [Sci-Fi Beta Kappa]1e now available in pdf.
Good question. As I said in my OP, at this stage I'm mainly looking for feedback on the clarity of the text, i.e. can you work out how to play etc. This is of course partly the point of beta testing, and for this purpose I'm not sure you'd need to download it. I'd love it if you were interested in either running or playing SFBK, in which case you probably would have to download and print it off, but please let me know beforehand if there are any bits that don't seem to make sense and I'll re-edit the document accordingly. Thanks for your interest too. It's not really a sci-fi game as such, although you can build SF into the game as a GM or player by introducing tech, like in one game someone was listening to Terran classical music (Nirvana) on an iPod 16. Also, part of the premise is that the aliens have been sent from hi-tech homeworlds to slum it on a technologically impoverished and backward Terrra. E.g. one suggestion for 'damage' is when Drunzi the larceny specialist is trying to break into a vehicle, not realising that Terran cars don't have the ultra-sophisticated locking systems he's used to on Nebulon and therefore having to physically break the lock, leaving evidence behind.

Cheers. I've edited it a bit since it was first uploaded; link to the revised doc is at the the top of this thread.

Ok, since it has been a busy week I haven't gotten a chance to get to it. Since it's supposed to rain this weekend I will download a copy of the revised version and check it out

Re: [Sci-Fi Beta Kappa]1e now available in pdf.
It's not only supposed to be raining here- it's being the UK-it is actually raining, or rather, as the expression has it, p1ssing down and I have a ton of errands to do which will necessitate walking around the streets a lot getting soaking wet. Yes, I do have an umbrella but British rain knows how to reach those parts of you that are exposed and unprotected even with a brolly. That would be brilliant, thanks. The main thing I'm concerned about is, are the following elements clear? Char gen. The fact that you don't have to use the pre-gens, and that you can tweak them a bit if you wish. How many skill checks are advisable and what to do if you think you don't have enough or have too many. How many dice you will need to roll on a given skill check. How to use the bennies (HPs). How to narrate the damage in-scene and as part of the Epilogue. How to calculate the Final Damage. The players' cheat sheets. Obviously the document will be revised continuously- these days, with laptops, publishing templates etc., this is very possible- but, as a couple of people have commented- there comes a point when you have to say OK it's as good as it's going to get for the time being, and you've just got to get it out there and see how folks react. Thing is, I don't want to go down the Microsoft route and go, as they seem to do a lot, almost straight from concept to gamma. With a monopolistic software giant that hardly matters- hence why they do it I guess- but for an RPG publisher, especially a fledgling one, if there are bloopers in alpha or beta, no problem- that's the point of playtesting after all- but if they reach gamma you've had it, because people will say to their friends 'This game's sh1te, don't buy it'.

Latest version up, now with detailed GM's notes, including a list of NPCs and guidance on running different types of scenarios.
