@Knarf: Thanks for that, that's extremely helpful. The problem with easy solutions to almost anything these days, from publishing to rock-climbing, is that not only is it possible to do what you want to do much more easily and quickly, it's also very easy to set up a company catering to those needs, so we now have a gazillion companies offering pod services* to choose from. But Lulu seems to be the current go-to small press printer for all the reasons you've stated above.

*Including presumably the optimal size and shape of pod for Body-snatching.

The other thing which should *not* be minimized is that Lulu's print quality is quite good.

Yes, most of the books printed by small press folks I know here in the UK have been, to my untrained eye, indistinguishable from litho.

I buy some stuff in print, but a LOT electronically...I do tend to have my laptop set up when I game. Basically, I have a wife, two kids and am renting a house with a leaky roof that is running out of space. I can keep my laptop away from the leaks, but am having a harder and harder time keeping my books away from the links...and my wife never has to tell me put my stack of PDFs up...=P

I will admit, I have heard some good things about LULU. If there was a .pdf that I wanted in print I would get LULU to do it.

I have a friend who had a problem with a book they got through LULU and they were quick to replace it. So good customer service there
