I ran a Changeling: the Dreaming game once set around the exploits of a barnstorming baseball team in 1908, loosely based on W.P. Kinsella's "Iowa Baseball Confederacy". It was pretty great.

I actually am surprised that there hasn't been more attention to sports in RPGs over the years. There's already a big parallel bit of fantasy play in sports, more from the perspective of management/statistics juggling than characters, but it seems a natural step to me.

I'd definitely be interested.

That was an awesome book! Orklord wrote a neat adaptation of Lady Blackbird for old-time minor league baseball which might be of interest.

Well, I've been discussing it with Orklord in the Tools of Ignorance thread in the Workshop. You're welcome to join in. :D

If I attempt to pitch a baseball game to my players (past), present and future....they would hurt me. Maybe I could get away with a football game, although I would have to explain to them why we are not out on the field kicking around a ball....but baseball, not a chance. I'd still get the game though.

David, not challenging your purchasing habits, just extremely curious why you'd buy the game if you know you'd never get to play it with your group?

(I've done the same thing myself)

Well orklord, if I enjoy the work of a particular designer, I normally get everything he/she creates even if the subject matter at first glance does not appeal to me. This applies to writers, directors etc.

Besides with games it's much easier to adapt. I may not be able to play this baseball game as written but somewhere down the road, who knows, I may run a weird altfuture/present/postapoc game, where the PCs are players in a blood sport game of baseball.

ETA: And Tools of Ignorance is a way cool name for a weird post apoc blood sport game, IMO.

Regards,
David R

Not to derail the thread too much - and maybe we should have one about purchasing things you are pretty sure you'll never play - I've already been considering how to strip away some for the baseball stuff and re-purpose it. Don't ask me how, now, because I've had a weekend of Gamma World and Gutter cleaning in the interim...

I love the idea clash is creating before our very eyes. I love the idea of the game; I love watching the ideas flow; I love watching it all come together.

After school today, I'm going to talk to my kids about whether or not they'd be interested...they are my new focus group.
