I don't deny the value of such a thing, but i wouldn't purchase it.

The way I see it, it's a free flash drive, assuming I can copy the stuff onto the computer and wipe the drive.

Yes.

So, yeah, depends on whether the price is right. In fact I don't have a great need for another flash drive.

It might be nice, but I'd never pay extra for it: assuming there was a normal print copy offered as well.

Any additional content would have to be pretty good. Character sheets I'd expect to download from the publisher's website. And I don't really want a PDF copy if I've got the book.

I mean, maybe, if there was an interactive PDF with all the character creation mechanics embedded into it, I'd buy it. That would be quite cool, actually.

I was actually thinking of the USB flashdrive option for a game release (sort of a preorder freebie). Thing with flash drives is this:

1) You can buy stupid-cheap ones that come out to like $1 per drive for an order of 100 (with your logo/name on the drive, etc). Like 128-256mb. Thing is, these aren't very useful to clients outside of their PDF delivery (or game files) use. That is, they couldn't be like, "Woo Hoo! I get the PDF, and it comes on a flash drive that I can use to transfer music and videos from my PC to my PS3 to boot!" Nope, it's just a small drive for dropping some e-content, maybe a song or two.

2) You can give the client more incentive by giving them a drive they can do other things with. IIRC, 2gb drives cost $6 each (minimum order 100, again with your logo on them, etc). That gives the client a toy, but the price is higher.

But those prices are just from my hand to yours. If you start sending them to stores/distributors, that starts increasing the price dramatically. Your $1 USB key with the PDF and character sheets starts costing $6 to actually ship/ensure.

I wouldn't be into a flashdrive but if it had a passcode or disc in it that gave me some extra goodies, I might be interested.

Andy,
do you have a line on drives this cheap? I have been searching and it is kind of weird. The 16-256 M drives are kind of unreasonable where 512M drives seem to work well.

Anyway, any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.
