Uhhh...no.

Well, who would admin the site then? I do not know that we need mods.

Perhaps the best way to look at this, everyone, is as a learning experience. For example, I didn't think about how much baggage the word "warning" would carry. I mean, I know I should have, but until walker said it, it was a complete blind spot.

This is more a problem folks have than you. You did not use a phrase like "I will begin banning people if we don't stop!". To me, that is moderation. I very much took it as you seem to have meant it ala "Hey, cut it out. No one wants to see you two wag your dicks at each other".

Understood and the problem is dealt with on my side at least.

For example, as I mentioned above, I never equated trying to brake up a fight between two people I like as being considered moderation, but I understand in retrospect how it could be.

To be honest, and maybe I have thicker skin, until you say something like "I will ban the next person who writes "fuck"!" I wont consider it moderation. Honestly, the thing that consistantly blows my mind is you get pundit heads defending that prick when he does the most unreasonable shit but when you say
"I can't believe I'm actually considering warning someone in this place...

How about you both just put each other on ignore for a few days?"

it is moderation of the most draconian nature. Look to RPG.Net, RPGSite or hell even EnWorld and you will see mods making far more stringent mod calls or commands.

As to anyone leaving because of little old me, that makes no sense. If enough folks are upset with my posting then the problem is not them, it is quiet simply me. If we have a troll in our midst, whether it is Jim or me, then you need to trim that troll. If we had a guy posting, unprovoked insults at another user or even several users then you need to adjust that attitude or leave. If you wont leave, we need to ask strongly that he do so. This is not the AbuseHaven.com but RPGHaven.com.

That Dan is good at "Don't piss in my pool" but not so much the other way? ;)

I'll take my other site hat off, for all the difference it'll make...

This is very weak sauce, guys. You'd rather a single user left, or both admins will quit? That's a cowardly way of banning someone in any parlance.

My advice? Stop being pussies!

People argue, people disagree, people might dislike each other. That's no reason to throw your toys out of the pram and threaten to take your ball home. That's childish.

Either ban Benoist and be done with it, or get over yourselves and move onto the next thread and the next discussion...where you can argue some more. ;)

Hit me!

For those of that speak English, a pram is some sort of conveyance.

This. We need people to handle technical and structural requests. Do we need mods? I think you two should both be Admins and at least formally free yourself of all "moderator" powers and responsibilities.

If there really is someone causing so much disturbance, then we as a community can come together and decide what to do. If it's to pull the plug on that person, then we as a community make such a request to the admins to do so. This way, you guys can yell and scream or ask people to stop yelling and screaming to your heart's content, without it being an appeal to authority. At the same time, we know there are neutral people with their hands on the levers and buttons making sure everything is running technically smoothly (which it sure as hell has been).

Is that just crazy talk? I think it's interesting where so far whenever a fight has broken out, we still seem to look for some form of authority, either to sort it out or in negative reaction to its power. Old habits die hard, I guess. I believe, though, that we can evolve past that. I think we all believe that there is good here. It's just not always going to be easy to see it. Such is life on the fledgling internet.

Points taken, gentlemen - and thanks for the laugh, walker.

I suppose I have the most to take away from this.

Dan, won't be banning anyone.

Thengel and Benoist - try not to take the worst read on the other and then overreact.

Aos - no moderating for you today. Blame walker.

And that should be the last I say on the subject. Group hug and all that.

OK one more thing. Dan, really wish you'd hang around more. How's Stone Horizons coming along?

As I said, no longer a problem.
